Teams will display highlights of their campaigns and engage in informal discussion

The Local Action Project (“LAP”) is about building power within locals. Year three is the culminating year in which locals will reflect on what they’ve accomplished so far and strategize to sustain their program into the future. Participants will reflect upon the pillars of LAP – Organizing, Social Justice, Political, and Community Engagement and debrief on the progress made toward advancing these touchstones of LAP. Teams will use this reflection to inform the development of future campaigns. By the conclusion of the program, each local will leave with a sustainability plan outlining governance practices, coalition relationships, and budgeting strategies to support ongoing annual campaigns.

This brief overview will explain the consultation process available throughout the week, including how teams can request one-on-one support from NYSUT staff to refine campaign strategy, governance planning, and sustainability efforts.

During this session, teams will learn about effective strategies for meaningful debrief. Using the campaign, they planned and executed for year two as a basis for this debrief, teams will report out on their reflections, including successes and adversities they experienced, what they learned from those experiences, and how those experiences will inform their work in the future.

This session will focus on the coalitions formed when running a campaign.  Each 3^rd year local will analyze sample successful campaigns and then use that information to debrief on the coalition building that took place during their campaign, with an emphasis on fostering relationships with different stakeholders.

In this session 3^rd year locals will once again examine their formal and informal governance structure and investigate adjustments to their local structure that will lend itself to annual campaign planning and communication around issues that matter to members, students, and the community.  3rd year locals will also formalize systems for collecting and storing data from stakeholders in order to inform annual campaigns and embed organizing into the “culture” of their local.

3^rd Year Locals will continue to examine how to collect and store data from stakeholders in order to inform future campaigns as part of their “culture”, while analyzing how a successful campaign can address all the pillars of LAP (Organizing, Social Justice, Political Action, Community Engagement). A special emphasis will be placed on including Social Justice in all campaigns.

3^rd year locals will examine the budgetary impacts of annual campaigns and discuss ways to sustain future actions when NYSUT LAP funding ends.

In this session, year 3 LAP locals will share their experiences, lessons learned, and best practices with first- and second-year LAP Locals.
